Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Monel 400 and Monel K500?

Monel 400 (UNS N04400) offers excellent corrosion resistance in marine and chemical environments, with good mechanical properties. Monel K500 (UNS N05500) provides similar corrosion resistance but delivers significantly higher strength and hardness due to precipitation hardening (age-hardening) — making it ideal for high-stress applications such as pump shafts, springs, and fasteners.

Are Monel flanges suitable for seawater applications?

Yes, both Monel 400 and K500 flanges perform exceptionally well in seawater and marine environments. They offer excellent resistance to corrosion, erosion, and biofouling, making them a preferred choice for offshore platforms, shipbuilding, desalination plants, and underwater piping systems.

Which pressure classes are available for Monel flanges?

Monel alloy flanges are available in ASME/ANSI pressure classes from 150 to 2500, with dimensions as per ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47. Equivalent DIN and JIS ratings are also available upon request. We offer all standard flange types — including Weld Neck, Slip-On, Socket Weld, Blind, Threaded, and Lap Joint — in sizes ranging from ½” NB to 48″ NB.

What manufacturing standards do you follow for Monel flanges?

Our Monel flanges are manufactured in compliance with ASTM B564 / ASME SB564 for material specifications and ASME B16.5 / B16.47 for dimensional standards. We also offer options meeting NACE MR0175, PED 2014/68/EU, and EN 10204 (Type 3.1/3.2) certification upon request.

Do you provide material test certificates with Monel flanges?

Yes, we provide full material traceability with EN 10204 Type 3.1 (manufacturer’s test certificate) and Type 3.2 (third-party inspection) documentation. Additional testing — including PMI, hydrostatic, ultrasonic, and NDT — can be arranged as per customer requirements.
